Frequently Asked Questions

How many Graduates do you recruit each year?
We don’t specifically recruit at certain times of the year, but we recruit when necessary to meet the business needs. Last year we recruited over 20 graduates and we are hoping to expand on that every year.

When is the deadline for applying?
We do not have a deadline for applying as the construction business is always evolving and new projects are developing all the time. We find it much more beneficial to recruit throughout the year rather that at certain times, therefore offering the opportunities to everyone.

What is the recruitment process?
We expect a covering letter and CV which will then be processed by the Graduate and Trainee Development Advisor as well as the relevant area manager and then an interview will be arranged if you are successful. We attempt to reply to all candidates whether they are successful or not and we do keep CV on file in case of future needs.

What disciplines do you require students to be from?
We mainly recruit from the construction management, quantity surveying and projects management discipline, but we also have roles in human resources; finance; safety, health and environment, and business development.

I’m a non UK citizen, can I still apply?
Yes, as long as you have a work permit.

Do you offer supervision for me to complete my RICS / CIOB?
Most definitely. We highly recommend that our students become members of the accredited associations and we believe support and supervision is a necessity to help you complete your chartership.

If I was sponsored by Morgan Ashurst, would I be able to work over the summer periods during each year?
We will offer vacation placements to all our sponsored students and we will do our best to ensure that they are in a location as close to where they are living as possible. If you’d rather go travelling, we support that choice too.

What help can I expect if Morgan Ashurst sponsors me?
Morgan Ashurst will be able to offer professional advice from all areas of the business and will be able to help with assignments. Some students have even attended business meetings to help them with their course work.

As an industrial placement student, what can I expect?
Whether your university offers a 12-month placement or two, six-month placements, you can expect a wide range of experience from being in the office to being on site. It is quite likely that you will have time in the various departments, for example, procurement, planning and safety, health and environment, and then some time on site. You will have a supervisor the whole time to ensure that you are learning new skills and developing sound knowledge of the construction industry.

What’s the possibility of working in an office near where I live?
We have offices across the UK so it highly likely that there will be an office location to suit. We also have many projects across the UK so that shouldn’t be a problem either. Our office and project locations are on the main website.

Am I able to gain sponsorship after my industrial placement?
After your industrial placement, you will be asked to fill in a sponsorship recommendation form which your line manger will complete if they believe that you have worked well during your work placement and that you are a student that Morgan Ashurst would like to retain for the future.

Do you visit university career events, if so, which ones?
Yes we do. We have visited many across the UK in the past few years ranging from Glasgow Caledonian, Northumbria, Leeds, Liverpool, Loughborough, Kingston, Brighton and many more events.

If I’m interested in work experience, vacation placement, industrial placements, sponsorship or a graduate role, how do I apply?
Please send your CV with a covering letter to grad.recruit@morganasurst.com

Can you tell me a bit about your Graduate Training Scheme?
The Graduate Training Scheme is a two-year programme, each year comprising of three modules, Communication and Negotiation; Customer and Client Relations; Presentation Skills; Effective Working Relations; Introduction to Finance, and Commercial management and Self Organisation and Problem- Solving Skills. These modules may change if necessary. At the end of the two years you will gain a Certificate in Management, accredited by the Chartered Institute of Management, which will allow you to progress as an employee. The scheme is a great way to meet other graduates as well as learn about the business and to interact with senior management across Morgan Ashurst.
